The Saree Distribution Scheme of the Telangana State government, on Thursday reached 81 lakhs, across the State.
Hyderabad: The Bathukamma Saree Distribution Scheme, taken up by the Telangana State government, has been extended to the destitute, elderly women and those living in orphanages as well, said Handloom and Textiles Minister K Taraka Rama Rao.
The Saree Distribution Scheme of the Telangana State government, on Thursday reached 81 lakhs, across the State, said officials from the Telangana State Handlooms Department.
According, Shailaja Ramaiyer, director, Handloom, Textiles and Apparel Exports, the department has handed out close to eight lakh sarees in 26 districts till Thursday.
In the last three days,the department has given out close to 81 lakh sarees across the Sate which is close to its target of distributing 1.04 crore sarees in the 31 districts over a span of three-days.
“We are confident of achieving the target of distributing over a crore sarees,” she said.
Handlooms and Textiles Director Shailaja Ramaiyer has been in constant touch with the District Collectors to speed up the process. Distribution centres were increased by another 2,000 on Tuesday from 10,000 centres.
Authorities were also asked to make arrangements for replacement of sarees, in case of damaged sarees were being supplied to beneficiaries.
