Discover the craft traditions of India
Hands of India hosts an exhibition and sale of its summer edition in Alwarpet till July 5.
The collection includes handwoven daabka ajrakh kurtas that blend handcrafting traditions from Rajasthan and West Bengal, as well as bandhani and leheriya kurtas, chanderi silk, Begampuri, donguria, Mangalgiri mirror work and Phulia saris from West Bengal, palazzos and skirts made of kalamkari fabric, western wear tunics with chikan and sujani hand embroidery, and a wide range of dupattas.
The collection also features hand-printed jahota skirts from Jaipur, made by woman artisans. Changing rooms and alteration facilities are available.
Hands of India intends to provide weavers and embroiderers in small towns and villages with employment, and has tied up with local artisan groups across the country to do so. It now boasts a network of 50 artisan groups and 1,500 artisans.
