Pochampally IKAT art mela kicks off

Pochampally IKAT art Mela 2017', a seven-day hand woven eco friendly handloom products exhibition Kick started at Sri Uma Ramalingeswara Swamyvari Kalyana Mandapam, Jampet.

Former Mayor, Veera Raghavamma and her husband, Adi Reddy Apparao, Member, AP Legislative Council formally inaugurated the mela and Municipal Corporator Medapati Sharmila Reddy had lit the traditional lamp and Bhavani, graced the occasion.

On the occasion Veera Raghavamma and Adi Reddy, said, “It’s nice to see various apparel, particularly Ikat Fabrics, silk and cotton saris, to be showcased for the Hand loom Fashion Connoisseurs in City.

“Handlooms are a part of an age old Indian tradition and are an element of the Indian culture and rich artistry,” said Sharmila . “We support the artisans and local community who have been passing on their skills for generations. Each design is an individual artisan’s creativity which is influenced by the local traditions and cultures,” said, Chikka Krishna, founder chairman, Pochampally Handloom Park.

Exhibiting exclusive handloom products like handmade bed and home linen, dress materials, silk and cotton saris in exquisite designs and contemporary colours by famous designers, skillfully created by world famous weavers of Pochampally.
