Fabric procurement to provide 8 months’ work to weavers SPE

Minister for Handlooms and Industries K.T. Rama Rao has stated that the State Government is working towards providing employment to weavers at least for eight months a year with the help of fabric procurement required for various government programmes.

At a review meeting held here on Monday, the Minister reiterated that the government would procure entire requirement of fabric for programmes such as school uniforms, clothes given to the poor during Ramzan, Christmas and Bathukamma festivals and others. The work order given by the government in recent months would provide wages to weavers at least for three months.

Officials informed the Minister that saris to be distributed for Bathukamma festival would reach all the district headquarters by September 16 and their distribution would be completed between September 17 and 19. The Minister stated that the government would issue orders soon with the annual plan of fabric procurement from weavers to utilise their entire production capacity.
