Exempt handloom sector from GST

Pithapuram: The cloth merchants of the town staged a protest against bringing handloom sector under GST.
Shops in Pithapuram, Gollaprolu, and Kothapalli mandals remained closed. Weavers took out a motor rally from Tatiparthi to Uppada bus stand.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders criticised the government that bringing the handlooms under tax bracket is unfair. They demanded that handlooms and silk be exempted from the GST so that it would bring relief to the thousands of weavers and workers who solely depend on this sector.
Kondeti Venkateswara Rao, Ch Srinu, Anjuri Chakradhar, K Bulleswara Rao and others took part in the protest.
